Nvu (pronounced "N-view") and its updated brother Kompozer are freeware, open-source HTML editors, based on the Composer component of the Mozilla Application Suite, and therefore belong to the same family as the browser Firefox and the e-mail application Thunderbird. They are intended to be free equivalents to proprietary software such as Microsoft FrontPage and Macromedia Dreamweaver and are available for different operating systems such as Linux, Mac OS X as well as Microsoft's Windows.

Both Nvu and Kompozer are designed to be easy for non-technical computer users, and have a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) interface, meaning that knowledge of HTML or CSS is not required as they allow you to compose a web page in a visual environment. Nevertheless, they can also be a powerful instrument in expert hands (for instance, it includes a css editor), although it has to be acknowledged that they do not have all the bells and whistles of their commercial counterparts.
