If you wish you could keep your desktop icons organised the way you want it rather than relying on Window's autoarrange, Fences may be for you. You can create as many Fences on your desktop, and use them to corral related icons. For instance, you may wish to use a Fence for your favourite programme shortcuts, or for related files/folders. It certainly speeds up finding what you want. Fences is free for personal use and worth a try.
