EasyCleaner & CCleaner

EasyCleaner is a utility which can perform a number of useful functions. It cleans "rubbish" from the Windows registry which builds up as you install/delete programs. It removes unneccessary files or duplicates. It tells you what takes up the space on your hard disk, helfpul when the hard disk is getting full and you don't know what to delete or move to an external hard disk. It provides easy management of which programs startup when you turn on the computer (you may be amazed at what is listed which you did not know about!). It is a convenient alternative to some of the Control Panel programs such as Add/Remove Programs, and for clearing cookies, temporary files and history.

CCleaner (the "C" standing for "Crap"!) is a similar program which seems to complement EasyCleaner in terms of finding redundant entries. Unlike EasyCleaner, it is regularly updated (but EasyCleaner is still a great utility).

What makes EasyCleaner and CCleaner so good, apart from being free, is they can be used safely without needing a degree in computing. Run both utilities regularly, and you are likely to make your PC faster and more efficient as a result.
